Bel Air E.S. Family,
December is quite overwhelming as families prepare for family gatherings, special travels, and perhaps some shopping outings in preparation for special traditions. As much as we’d all like to feel that we are organized and well-prepared for the upcoming weeks, each family deals with the stress of the holidays in different ways. Oftentimes, children fall victim to later bedtimes, hectic trips to the store for that last item, and sometimes experience first-hand the financial stress that plagues many families during this time of the year. Routines often fall to the wayside along with daily reading practices, consistent homework support, and even family meals. I encourage you (and myself) to make a concerted effort to see that the rush and stresses of the holiday season do not seep into our child’s daily routine and need for consistency.
The Eastern Boundary Meeting was held on December 6, 2016 at Freedom H.S. Our school will be impacted by the boundary change during the 2017-18 school year. Within the four (4) proposed plans we can stand to lose 61 to 134 students to Neabsco Elementary School. You have the opportunity to share your thoughts at the January 4th School Board Meeting but you must sign up, prior to the meeting, to speak during Citizen's Time. The School Board will be voting on the boundary plan during their January 18th School Board Meeting. Please check previous 'Principal Message' for the Planning Portal for more information.
CHARACTER COUNTS - CARING
Throughout the month of December, the Bel Air students and staff will be demonstrating the Character Counts trait of “caring” as we care for our community. From Monday, November 28, 2016 until Tuesday, December 13, 2016 we will be collecting pennies each day in the lobby. These pennies will be used to support a local family here at Bel Air during the holiday season. This family is one of our own and is struggling. This is a great opportunity for us to teach our students how important it is to care about and be responsible for our community. If you have any questions, please contact Katie Rivers at 703-670-4050 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm a looking forward to the time that I will have with my husband and kids! This has been an amazing start to the 2016-17 school year! I wish you all a safe and loving holiday season! Thank you for sending us your best! See you in the New Year!
